Executive Chef Larry Keck

Chef Larry Keck found his passion of cooking when he started working in restaurants at the early age of 14 just like one of his mentors, Jacques Pepin. Having been cooking in his mother’s kitchen since he was 8 years old, it seemed like the logical thing to do. Chef Larry opened Black Tie Events and Catering in 1989, L Keck Consulting (restaurant renovate consulting firm) in 2000 and has been honing his craft ever since.

 

Alongside his journey, he has worked with a number of celebrity Chef’s such as, Narsai David, Jeremiah Towers, Alice Waters, Bradley Ogden and he has also traded secrets with Thomas Keller, Jacques Pepin and Alan Wong. Chef Larry learned a lot and took inspiration from them in order to come up with his own unique style of California cuisine with Asian and European fusion.

 

Over the past 20 years, Chef Larry has also done consulting for a number of high end restaurants and hotels from Maui, Mexico and San Francisco. It is quite possible that you have seen his menus or have had his food without even knowing it. He has successfully competed in various cooking competitions such as winning 40 out of the 45 local Iron Chef competitions, won Season 7, Episode 8 of Food Network Show “Guy’s Grocery Games and recently placed 6th out of 212 chefs in the country for the best Blended Burger for the James Beard Foundation. In addition to these competitions, Chef Larry made an appearance on “Man vs Child Chef Showdown” and had a wonderful time doing the show. He has taught at the Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, California as well as the Treasure Island Job Corps Culinary Program. Chef Larry Keck is very passionate in creating new menus and feels right at home in the kitchen when it is hectic. His wife says that he loves to take on challenges and works better when things seem to be on the verge of falling apart.
